We were fortunate to take a mini family vacation the second weekend in October to Omaha for Corey and Kiley Skadburg's wedding. We thought it would be a great weekend to take Jakson to the Omaha zoo. It was the first time I had been there as well, so I was very excited for the experience. What a difference from the Des Moines zoo!!! We didn't even get all the way through the zoo...due to a very tired baby boy as you'll see in the last picture. We arrived around noon and left about 2:30. At the D.M. zoo, you could do the loop in probably an hour and a half if you stopped at each exhibit. This was NOT the case in Omaha. We ate lunch in the cafeteria and then headed outside. It was a bit nippy, as you can see from the pic with Jakson in his stocking hat and two right handed gloves (mommy didn't check the gloves before she bought them at Babies R Us...who puts two right handed gloves into a hat/glove set?). Jakson LOVED the penguins, the aquarium, and the giraffes again. We had such a great time and can't wait to go back and see the rest next summer!
Jakson was fascinated with the penguins. They had two baby penguins about 6-7 months old that still had their down feather coats. They were the same size as the adult penguins. Jakson is pointing to them going "uh, yah, uh yeh" in this picture". It was so cute to see him show interest in the animals at this zoo go-around.

A big rhinoceros, a few short minutes before we arrived at this exhibit, the two males had gotten into a fight. You can't see it, but he had blood all over one side of his body from the rhino battle. Poor guy...

J was in aww of all the fish and the pretty colors
A California Sea Lion sun bathing. The pool they were swimming in used to be a pool for people. Cool!
This was the beginning of a LONG, long (did I saw LONG?) three hours. Jakson had his very first overtired tantrum. I always have been good about giving him his naps and just this one time I decided to NOT BE ANAL and thought to myself...he can handle the short morning nap in the car, lunch, zoo, and have a late nap once we get to the hotel, right? WRONG. He fell asleep in the car to the hotel, for like 15 minutes. Then he sobbed and bawled for about 3 hours straight in the hotel room. Talk about feeling like a bad mommy. Brett went on to the rehearsal at the church while I stayed with Jakson trying to get him to sleep. Every time he fell asleep in my arms, I would try to put him in his pack and play and he would wake up. Finally, about 5 tries and two hours later, he fell asleep for about an hour. We made it to rehearsal dinner AND I will never deprive my child of a nap again. :)
